2) Guest Speaker: Chris and Ben
- Rotary ambassadorial scholarship. All about cultural immersion. Go to a country where you speak the native tongue.
- Contact local rotary club for info on application process. Check out the links below for more information
- Application process involves a series of essays and an interview. Important to know what you want to study and how that aligns with rotary goals e.g. health and polio
- In your host country you will be assigned to a host club. Chris was assigned to Rotary club of Auckland east. You are required to attend weekly meetings, turn in reports and presentations (8-15 presentations) which illustrates what you have done and what you plan to do.
- Animportant aspect of the scholarship is for you to show the ideals of your culture – who you are and what you’re about.
- Highlights of Chris and Ben's time in NZ
· Ben – south island.
· Chris – iron man NZ. Quality time with Rotarian families. Used the proximity of NZ to do other travelling e.g. Fiji.
3) Projects
- Blood drive (Bobbie): Thursday 14th, 3 people gave blood. A single person can save up to 3 lives so potentially we saved 9 last week. Thanks guys! This will be an ongoing thing.
- Drug and alcohol project: End of Daze was a possible first event but this is not going ahead. The next event will be soon. Either a Friday or Saturday. If you are interested in getting involved, give us an email and let us know.
- Child sponsorship: Thank you to Kuljeet, Cathy and Bobby for attending the Winemakers lunch. As a result of them volunteering we received $40 per head from Rotary. Thanks for all those that donated their spare change at the meeting. We collected $31.50.
- City Mission: Nico is waiting for a reply from Auckland city Mission. In the meantime, we need to organise a time to contact Rotary clubs and volunteers to help tell them about the project and collect cans from them. Thank you to Bryce, Megan and Vivian who volunteered to assist Nico with the planning. He will be in touch soon.
- Shelter box: This project is a very good idea and something we should definitely get involved with. If anyone is interested in helping organise a project around this please let us know
